Greetings!
My educational philosophy is to honour, value, and respect all students in an inclusive learning environment that provides equitable opportunities for children to learn and grow. I believe that children thrive socially, emotionally, and academically when they have opportunities to explore the world around them, which fosters their sense of belonging and develops a sense of self.
My Learning Journey
Over the last few years, there has been an increasing amount of multicultural students joining our school community. I love seeing the friendships that form, hearing candid conversations, and watching the kiddos grow and develop throughout the school year.
Last year, I stepped into a teaching role in a primary classroom and I quickly realized that I was not "reaching" some of my English Language Learners. So, I began a journey to find out how I can better support my students. I decided to take a course...then another...and another...and here I am today. I quickly realized that there is alot to learn about supporting and sustaining intercultural connections through instruction. Over the last six months, I have read numerous articles, analyzed my own perspectives and beliefs, and collaborated with colleagues across the province to learn more on how to improve classroom instruction for multicultural and marginalized student populations. Now that I have embarked on this quest to know more, I cannot wait to share it with you!
I feel that I continue to work towards becoming a teacher who will support my students in an equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning environment. This means that everyone has equal and fair opportunities to learn in a variety of ways. I have made it my mission to advocate for multicultural students and marginalized groups by connecting with a network of teachers who continue to strive towards planning instruction with equity, diversity, and inclusion in mind. My hope is to support students who are at risk socially and academically, by taking action to be better allies for them so they can achieve success inside and outside of school.
Thank you...
